Full performance repertoire:
Personally crafted VMAAI Gold Medalist Wayne Zhou. As a featured build in our Award-Winning Series, it represents a high-level marriage of historical arching and modern soloist requirements. It is an instrument born from an uncompromising selection of materials, featuring 40-year-old Italian Spruce and a striking one-piece Bosnian Maple back seasoned over a quarter-century
Based on the Guarneri del Gesu “Ysaÿe, widely regarded as one of the darkest and most mature-sounding patterns in the Guarneri del Gesù lineage. This specific build captures that essence perfectly. The elongated f-hole design, a hallmark of the 1740 original, allows the top plate to vibrate with exceptional freedom. This results in an open, lush sound that feels broken-in from the first stroke. Despite its deep, dark character, the response remains incredibly fast, allowing for total clarity during rapid technical passages
To meet the demands of the modern performer, this model is optimized with a 353 mm body length. This specific dimension is designed to preserve a comfortable, virtuosic playability while creating a larger internal air capacity. When paired with the full and authentic del Gesù arching, the result is an instrument with massive projection that handles high bow pressure without losing its singing quality
The visual character is modeled after a 300-year-old masterpiece, featuring an orange-brown antique varnish meticulously applied over a golden-brown Cremonese ground. Wayne’s award-winning antiquing process creates a texture and depth that mirror the finest Italian originals. Every detail is intended to provide the maturity of an antique with the structural reliability of a new masterwork.
Wayne Zhao’s violins represent an exceptional value for both tone and artistry, used by professionals and collectors worldwide. While average lead times for custom orders are currently 5-6 months, this gallery-featured work is available for immediate acquisition.
